Bilawal denounces PML-N for becoming Pakistan’s ‘inflation league’. Amid escalating election fervor in Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has sharply criticized those purporting to champion the sanctity of the vote, accusing them of transforming into the country’s “inflation league.”
In what seemed to be a subtle dig at Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Bilawal asserted that these figures lack reverence for the public’s vote and exhibit a fundamental ignorance in serving the people and effectively governing the country.
Nawaz Sharif, who recently concluded a four-year self-imposed exile in London, confronts an uncertain political future due to legal entanglements resulting in his disqualification from holding public office.
Bilawal has strategically utilized public platforms, such as a workers’ convention in Peshawar, to critique traditional political paradigms and advocate for a shift toward what he terms as “new politics,” particularly pertinent as the general elections loom on February 8.
The PPP leader also directed his rhetoric towards the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), asserting that those professing to embody change have instead become harbingers of disaster.
Bilawal took aim at Khan’s propensity for political “U-turns,” characterizing such maneuvers as indicative of cowardice rather than leadership.
In response to mounting critiques of the PPP’s performance within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, spearheaded by the PML-N, Bilawal staunchly defended his 16-month tenure, expressing pride in his accomplishments as the foreign minister.
Undeterred by the scrutiny, he affirmed his readiness to contest the forthcoming polls, banking on his achievements as a basis for electoral support.
Bilawal remains optimistic about the PPP’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 elections, asserting a newfound advantage compared to previous contests in 2013 and 2018.
