Shubman Gill dethrones Babar Azam as number one ODI batter. Shubman Gill, the talented Indian batsman, has ascended to the top of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Batting Rankings, ending Babar Azam’s over two-year reign as the number one One Day International (ODI) batter.
This transformation follows Gill’s stellar contributions to India’s campaign at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Gill’s remarkable feat places him in an esteemed league, becoming the fourth Indian player to claim the top spot in the rankings, following the footsteps of legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.
As per the latest ICC rankings, Shubman Gill currently sits comfortably at the summit with 830 points, while Babar Azam finds himself in the second position with 824 points.
The swift alteration in rankings further saw Virat Kohli secure the fourth spot, amplifying India’s prominence in the top echelons of batting rankings.
Notably, the bowling rankings also witnessed a seismic shift. Mohammed Siraj from India usurped the number one position from Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Presently, Shaheen Shah Afridi is joint fifth along with Australia’s Josh Hazlewood. Meanwhile, Pakistani batsman Fakhar Zaman’s commendable performance against New Zealand propelled him to the 11th position in the rankings.
In the all-rounder domain, despite his untimely exit from the World Cup due to injury, Bangladesh’s skipper Shakib Al Hasan retains his numero uno status.
As Shubman Gill dethrones Babar Azam as the number one ODI batter, noteworthy too is Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, who advanced two spots to claim the sixth position in the all-rounder rankings, courtesy of his standout performance against Afghanistan in Mumbai.
