A man was arrested on Monday in Odisha’s Sambalpur district for allegedly bludgeoning his wife to death for not cooking rice, according to the police.
On Sunday night, the incident occurred in Nuadhi village, in the Jamankira Police Station area.
The man Sanatan Dharua, 40, has been identified as the accused, and Pushpa Dharua, 35, has been identified as his wife.
Sanatan and his wife Pushpa have two children. Their daughter works as a domestic helper in Kuchinda, while their son spent Sunday night at a friend’s house for a sleepover.
When Sanatan returned home, he discovered that Pushpa had only cooked curry and no rice. According to a police officer, this sparked an argument between them, during which he attacked and bludgeoned his wife to death.
The incident came to light when the deceased woman’s son returned home to find his mother dead. He called the cops, who took the body and arrested the husband.
As the man kills his wife for cooking curry without rice, according to Jamankira Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Premjit Das, an autopsy was performed on Monday and the accused husband was detained.
