October month is usually Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). This month all the International and National institutions start a campaign for the general masses to promote awareness about breast cancer. “Breast cancer arises in the lining cells (epithelium) of the ducts (85%) or lobules (15%) in the glandular tissue of the breast. Initially, the cancerous growth is confined to the duct or lobule (“in situ”) where it generally causes no symptoms and has minimal potential for spread (metastasis).”
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is the world’s most prevalent cancer. Breast cancer occurs in every country of the world. It can be at any stage after puberty hits the female. It is so common that “About 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.” In 2020, 2.3 Million women were diagnosed with breast cancer and from them 685000 deaths globally which is not a less number.
The Question arises that, whether the Government or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are arising breast cancer awareness in ruler areas of Pakistan. As Pakistan is a country where socioeconomic rights are not implemented. The Girls of ruler areas do not get an education because of financial issues and cultural issues, and their parents even do not know about Breast Cancer, Especially in this current situation where Pakistan is unfortunate severely hit by climate change.
The flood-affected people need more and more medical treatment and all the other basic necessities which are food, shelter, and cloth. Moreover, girls also need the products for their menstrual cycle like pads, tampons, and menstrual cups. We cannot forget that women are also affected badly by this flood. According to the WHO the signs and symptoms of Breast cancer include, “a breast lump or thickening; alteration in size, shape or appearance of a breast; dimpling, redness, pitting or other alteration in the skin; change in nipple appearance or alteration in the skin surrounding the nipple (areola); and/or abnormal nipple discharge.”
People who are living in Ruler areas get less response while people living in urban areas get more response as they are living in developed cities where hospitals are nears and doctors are available 24/7 while in ruler areas there was no such advanced hospitals nor the doctors are highly qualified.
The Government and the NGO said workers together to give Awareness about Breast Cancer in ruler areas. They should go in hand and the youth of Pakistan should also help these NGOs and Government to promote Awareness as much as they can. In this 21st century, the media is known as the 4 pillars that can help promote awareness about breast cancer. Also, they should take a local men/women from that particular area to give awareness of their own mother language, in that way a layman can understand Breast cancer.
