The Border Security Force (BSF) made an arrest of a woman trying to smuggle 27 gold bars out of Bangladesh on Thursday in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. Over 2 kg and almost 1.29 crore worth of gold bars were seized.
Manika Dhar, the 34-year-old smuggler, had tied a towel around her waist and concealed 27 various kinds of gold bars inside of it. She is a Bangladeshi native of the Chittagong region.
A Bangladeshi smuggler woman was preparing to cross the border with gold, according to intelligence provided by BSF women employees stationed at the Indian checkpoint. When the Mahila Jawans arrived, they stopped the woman, checked the suspect, and discovered the 27 gold bars hidden in her clothing.
The smuggler acknowledged under questioning that she had been told to deliver the gold bars to an unidentified person in West Bengal’s Barasat. She also acknowledged that she had never smuggled gold before and that she would be paid 2,000 for the job.
Following this, the smuggler and the gold bars were turned over to Custom Office Petrapole for additional legal action.
The South Bengal Frontier’s spokesperson, BSF, praised the jawans’ diligence and expressed delight over their achievement in stopping smugglers.
The Border Security Force (BSF) is India’s border guarding organization at its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India, and was raised in the wake of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 “for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for related matters”.
