The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a special facility allowing women aged 18 and above to apply for a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) even if they do not have a birth certificate.
The facility is aimed at helping women who face difficulties obtaining their first CNIC because they cannot provide a birth certificate.
Married Women Can Apply With Nikah Nama
According to NADRA, married women can apply for a CNIC by providing a computerised Nikah Nama as supporting documentation.
Biometric verification of either the applicant’s husband or one of her parents will also be required during the application process.
The arrangement provides an alternative route for eligible married women who may otherwise face difficulties completing their first CNIC application.
Requirements for Unmarried Women
Unmarried women aged 18 and above can also use the facility, but they must provide the CNIC of a parent, sibling or both as supporting documentation.
A parent or sibling must also be physically present for biometric verification when the application is processed.
NADRA has advised applicants to ensure they meet the documentation and biometric requirements before submitting their applications.
NADRA Announces Deadline for Special Facility
The authority said the facility was introduced specifically to assist women who do not have birth certificates and face difficulties obtaining their first CNIC.
NADRA initially stated that the facility would remain available until December 31, 2026. However, the announcement also mentions December 21, 2026, as the validity date.
Applicants should therefore complete their CNIC applications within the announced period and fulfil all required documentation and biometric verification conditions.
