Punjab Makes Cross-Invigilation and Cross-Marking Mandatory in School Exams

Punjab Considers Extending PECTAA Exams to Private Schools

Punjab has made cross-invigilation and cross-marking mandatory for the first-term school-based assessment as part of new measures aimed at ensuring greater transparency in examinations.

The Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTA) has issued instructions to schools for the first term, directing that the teacher responsible for a subject cannot invigilate the examination for that same subject.

Under the new guidelines, schools have been instructed to follow a cross-invigilation system during examinations.

This means teachers will not be assigned to supervise papers in subjects they teach. The measure is intended to reduce the possibility of bias and ensure that examinations are conducted fairly.

Cross-Marking Made Compulsory

PECTA has also made cross-marking compulsory for the first-term school-based assessment.

Teachers will not be permitted to check the answer sheets of students they teach. Instead, papers will be marked by other teachers under the cross-marking arrangement.

The School Education Department has issued strict directions for the implementation of the new system, with the measures intended to promote transparency, fairness and merit in the assessment process.

Schools have been directed to follow the first-term instructions in full.
