Lithium battery prices have dropped in Lahore, bringing down the cost of energy storage for consumers using on-grid, hybrid and off-grid solar systems.
According to market sources, battery prices have declined by around Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 100,000, offering some relief to households and businesses planning to install or upgrade solar power systems.
5kW and 16kW Battery Prices Drop
The price of a 5kW lithium battery has fallen from Rs. 250,000 to Rs. 230,000, representing a reduction of Rs. 20,000.
Meanwhile, the price of a 16kW lithium battery has dropped from Rs. 750,000 to Rs. 650,000, making it Rs. 100,000 cheaper than before.
The latest reductions could lower the upfront investment required for solar systems that use batteries to store electricity for later consumption.
Solar Battery Demand Rises After Net Metering Changes
The decline in lithium battery prices comes as more consumers in Pakistan are considering off-grid and battery-backed solar systems following changes to the country’s net metering policy.
With consumers facing changes in the economics of selling surplus solar electricity to the grid, battery storage has become an increasingly important option for using solar power generated during the day after sunset.
Demand for complete solar systems has also increased as both solar panel and lithium battery prices have declined in the local market.
Lower Battery Costs Could Boost Solar Adoption
Cheaper lithium batteries could make solar power more accessible for consumers looking to reduce their dependence on conventional grid electricity.
For households and businesses, battery storage can allow excess solar generation to be stored and used when solar panels are not producing electricity, particularly during evening hours.
