The US State Department has announced it will make an additional 250,000 commemorative Patriot Passports available nationwide after receiving overwhelming public interest in the limited-edition travel document.
According to reports, the optional passport was introduced as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary and features an image of Donald Trump above his signature on the inside cover.
In a statement, the State Department said the decision to expand availability followed an exceptionally strong public response.
“In response to overwhelming demand, the Department of State is making an additional 250,000 of the special commemorative passports available to the public,” the department said.
How to Apply for the Patriot Passport
The commemorative Patriot Passport is optional and will not be issued automatically to applicants.
Eligible Americans can request the special edition passport by:
- Visiting designated America 250 anniversary passport events taking place during August and September.
- Applying in person at the Washington, DC Passport Agency.
Those who prefer the standard US passport can continue using existing application methods, including:
- Online passport services
- Mail-in applications
- Passport acceptance facilities
- US embassies and consulates abroad
The State Department emphasized that the commemorative version has the same validity and functionality as a standard US passport.
High Demand Leads to Expanded Release
According to a State Department spokesperson, the agency received an unexpectedly large number of requests through phone calls, social media, and in-person inquiries.
Officials said interest surged during public events, including the Great American State Fair, prompting the department to increase production of the commemorative passport.
The additional 250,000 passports are intended to give more eligible Americans an opportunity to obtain the limited-edition document during the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
The Patriot Passport remains an optional commemorative edition, while the standard US passport continues to be available through normal application channels.
