Judges Can Now Buy Official Cars for the Price of a 150cc Motorcycle

The Lahore High Court vehicle scheme 2026 has introduced a major benefit for judicial officers across Punjab by allowing eligible judges to purchase their official government vehicles at significantly reduced prices.

The initiative covers thousands of officers serving in the subordinate judiciary and is expected to improve long-term asset ownership while reducing the administrative burden of maintaining aging government fleets.

According to an official notification issued by the Lahore High Court (LHC), approximately 2,000 judicial officers will be eligible to acquire their currently assigned official vehicles, including Suzuki Alto, Toyota Corolla, and Honda City models, at subsidized rates ranging between Rs250,000 and Rs350,000.

The subsidized vehicle purchase scheme applies to judicial officers serving throughout Punjab’s subordinate judiciary, including:

  • District and Sessions Judges
  • Additional District and Sessions Judges
  • Senior Civil Judges
  • Civil Judges
  • Family Judges

The facility has also been extended to judges serving in specialized courts, including:

  • Anti-Terrorism Courts

  • Anti-Narcotics Courts
  • Customs Courts
  • Labour Courts

Judicial officers from the Punjab judiciary who are currently serving on deputation to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad High Court, Constitutional Court, and federal or provincial law ministries are also eligible.

Key Deadline for Eligible Judges

The Directorate of District Judiciary has directed all eligible judicial officers to submit pay orders in favor of the Registrar, Lahore High Court by July 22, 2026.

The implementation instructions were issued through a 74-page circular (Reference No. 10048/TMF-P&D-11/DDJ) dated July 11, 2026, requiring District and Sessions Judges across Punjab to complete the process within the specified timeframe.

Punjab Judiciary at a Glance

Official figures show the province currently has:

  • 147 District and Sessions Judges
  • Around 500 Additional District and Sessions Judges
  • 110 Senior Civil Judges
  • Nearly 1,000 Civil Judges, Family Judges, and Judicial Magistrates

Together, these officers make up the backbone of Punjab’s subordinate judiciary, explaining why nearly 2,000 officials are expected to benefit from the initiative.

Why the Scheme Matters

The program offers judicial officers an opportunity to own reliable vehicles at a fraction of their market value. It also allows the Lahore High Court to streamline fleet management by transferring older vehicles to their long-term users instead of maintaining them as government assets.

From an administrative perspective, similar asset disposal programs are often used to reduce maintenance costs and improve operational efficiency within public institutions.

What Happens Next?

Eligible judges must complete payment formalities before the deadline. Once the process is finalized, ownership of the allotted vehicles will be transferred according to the Lahore High Court’s approved procedure.

Court staff have reportedly been visiting banks to obtain the required pay orders, indicating strong interest in the scheme.
