A young boy was left critically injured after a violent attack in Hijrat Colony, raising renewed concerns about public safety and the growing presence of drug addicts in parts of Karachi.
According to Karachi Police, the incident occurred in a forested area near the seashore when a drug addict allegedly confronted the child and demanded Rs. 20.
Attack Over a Small Amount of Money
Police said the suspect stopped the boy and asked him for money. When the child told him he did not have Rs. 20, the suspect reportedly attacked him with a sharp blade, slashing his throat before fleeing the scene.
The injured child was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors described his condition as critical.
Fear and Anger Among Local Residents
The incident sparked fear and anger among residents of Hijrat Colony, who say drug addicts have increasingly occupied the seashore and nearby forested areas.
Locals claimed that makeshift camps set up by addicts have become centres of criminal activity. Residents reported frequent incidents of harassment, robberies, and physical assaults, adding that pedestrians and nearby residents are often stopped, beaten, or robbed.
Community members warned that the situation poses a serious threat to children and families living in the area.
Police Action and Arrest
Following the attack, police launched an investigation and later arrested the suspect allegedly involved in the assault.
Authorities said further legal action is underway and assured residents that steps are being taken to address security concerns in the area.
Calls for Immediate Crackdown
Residents have urged law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against drug addicts operating near the seashore. They demanded the removal of illegal camps and increased police patrolling to prevent further violent incidents.
The attack has once again highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action against drug abuse and street crime to protect vulnerable communities in Karachi.
