The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has issued a strong public warning, urging citizens to remain vigilant against fake e-challans and fraudulent SMS messages being circulated to steal personal and financial information.
As part of its latest public awareness campaign, the authority said cybercriminals are using deceptive tactics, including fake links and counterfeit websites, that closely resemble official e-challan platforms. These scams are designed to trick people into sharing sensitive data or making payments through unverified portals.
Official E-Challan Process Clarified
PSCA emphasized that genuine e-challan notifications are sent only through the official short code 9915. Any message received from other numbers, especially those containing clickable links, should be treated as suspicious.
Citizens have been strictly advised not to click on unknown links and never to share one-time passwords, CNIC details, banking information, or other personal data with anyone.
Use Only Verified Payment Channels
The authority clarified that e-challan verification and payments should only be made through official government-approved platforms. Payments made via random websites or unofficial apps carry a high risk of financial fraud.
PSCA warned that scammers often use government-style language and logos to appear legitimate, increasing the chances of victims falling into the trap.
Reporting Fraud Attempts
Citizens who receive suspicious messages or encounter attempted fraud have been advised to report the matter immediately to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, Police Helpline 15, or other relevant law enforcement authorities.
Rising Online Fraud Concerns
The warning comes amid a noticeable rise in online fraud cases across Punjab, with criminals increasingly exploiting digital services and public trust in government systems.
PSCA urged the public to stay informed, verify before making any payment, and share awareness messages with family members, especially those less familiar with digital platforms, to help prevent further victimization.
