The Government of Punjab has launched a new healthcare support initiative aimed at reducing the financial burden on cancer patients and improving access to treatment across the province.
Under the “Chief Minister Special Initiative for Cancer Patients”, eligible individuals will receive financial assistance of up to Rs1 million per year for medical treatment.
The program is designed to ensure that patients receive timely diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care without facing severe financial hardship.
Coverage for diagnosis and full treatment cycle
According to the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company, the scheme is available only to permanent residents of Punjab and covers the complete treatment process, including diagnostic tests, medical procedures, and post-treatment care.
Officials said patients will be treated at designated hospitals included in the program’s approved panel to ensure standardized medical care and regulated service delivery across participating institutions.
Financial relief for critical illnesses
The initiative is aimed at easing the economic pressure on families dealing with cancer, a disease that often requires long-term and expensive treatment. Authorities said the program will help ensure that financial constraints do not delay or interrupt medical care.
Health officials added that early diagnosis and timely treatment remain key priorities of the scheme, as these factors significantly improve survival outcomes for cancer patients.

Helpline and support services
To facilitate access, the provincial government has established a 24/7 helpline (0800-09009), along with landline and WhatsApp support services for registration, guidance, and assistance.
Officials said the support system is intended to help patients navigate the process more easily and connect them with approved healthcare facilities without delay.
Step toward improved healthcare access
Authorities described the initiative as part of broader efforts to strengthen public healthcare delivery in Punjab and ensure that critical disease treatment is accessible to vulnerable populations.
The program is expected to improve cancer care outcomes while reducing the financial strain on families across the province.
