Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a series of measures aimed at strengthening family planning and reproductive health services in both urban and rural areas, with the goal of expanding access to family welfare facilities across the province.
According to officials, the government has decided to expand the network of family welfare centres to ensure that family planning services reach a wider segment of the population, particularly in underserved and remote communities.
The provincial cabinet has also approved the extension of contracts for community-based family planning workers and other staff working under the 2014–2021 population welfare programme, officials said.
Authorities believe the decision will help ensure continuity in service delivery and retain trained and experienced personnel essential for effective implementation of family welfare initiatives.
According to the Department of Health and Population Welfare, relevant institutions have been directed to take immediate steps to guarantee the uninterrupted functioning of family welfare centres across Punjab.

Officials added that administrative and financial arrangements required for the continued employment of family planning workers will be completed on a priority basis to avoid disruption in services.
Government sources said the approved measures are expected to improve access to reproductive health and family planning services, particularly in low-income and hard-to-reach areas where healthcare coverage remains limited.
The Punjab government reiterated that strengthening family welfare programmes is a key component of its broader public health strategy and pledged sustained institutional and financial support for population welfare initiatives in the coming years.
Authorities expressed confidence that the reforms would contribute to better maternal health outcomes, informed family planning decisions, and improved public health indicators across the province.
