No HIV Outbreak in Islamabad, Health Ministry Clarifies

The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination has dismissed reports suggesting an outbreak of HIV in the federal capital, stating that the situation in Islamabad remains under control and there is no evidence of any epidemic.

Data Misinterpreted Over 15-Month Period

According to the ministry, concerns about a sudden rise in HIV cases stem from a misinterpretation of data that was collected over a 15-month period and presented collectively, creating a misleading impression of an outbreak.

Officials clarified that there has been no abnormal monthly increase in reported cases in the capital.

Breakdown of Reported Cases

The ministry also provided a clarification on case distribution, stating that:

  • Out of 618 total reported HIV cases
  • Only 210 cases are residents of Islamabad
  • The remaining cases belong to individuals from other cities

Officials emphasized that including patients from outside the capital contributed to confusion in interpreting the data.

No Evidence of Widespread Transmission

Health authorities further stated that a portion of the cases identified belonged to specific high-risk groups, and this does not indicate widespread transmission among the general population.

They reiterated that the current situation does not represent an outbreak or epidemic in the federal capital.

Public Health Context

The ministry stressed that routine monitoring and surveillance systems remain active, and there is no indication of an unusual spike in HIV infections in Islamabad.

Authorities urged the public and media to rely on verified health data to avoid misreporting and unnecessary alarm.
