Maryam Nawaz has announced that Muzaffargarh’s first women-focused food street is now fully operational, transforming a previously underutilized area into a vibrant public and commercial space aimed at empowering women through sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative, launched under the Punjab government’s broader women empowerment agenda, prioritizes economic inclusion by allocating stalls primarily to widows, single mothers, and female vendors, ensuring targeted support for women facing financial vulnerability.
Rent-Free Stalls and Free Facilities for Women Vendors
According to official details, vendors operating at the food street have been provided with extensive support to lower startup and operational costs. Facilities include:
- Complimentary food carts and kiosks
- Rent-free stalls
- Free electricity access
- Designated parking areas
These measures are designed to make small-scale entrepreneurship accessible to women who may otherwise struggle to enter the local business ecosystem.
I am pleased to share that Muzaffargarh’s first female-centric food street is now fully operational, transforming a previously underutilized urban space into a vibrant culinary and cultural hub.

Boosting Women’s Economic Participation
Officials said the project aims to create a stable source of income for women, enabling them to support their families while actively participating in local economic activity. By removing traditional barriers such as rent and utility costs, the initiative encourages women to transition from informal work to more secure, visible businesses.
Urban Renewal and Community Space Development
Beyond economic benefits, the women-only food street has also contributed to urban renewal in Muzaffargarh. The development has revitalized the area into an active public space where residents can gather for social, cultural, and recreational activities, improving the overall urban environment.
Authorities described the project as a model for combining women empowerment with city development, with the potential to be replicated in other districts across Punjab.
Part of a Broader Punjab Women Empowerment Drive
The launch aligns with the Punjab government’s ongoing efforts to expand opportunities for women through skill development, entrepreneurship support, and inclusive public infrastructure. Officials said similar initiatives are being considered in other cities to strengthen grassroots economic growth and social inclusion.
