Donald Trump has announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened for global maritime traffic, marking a major development for international shipping routes and Middle East geopolitical stability.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership, calling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir “great personalities”, while describing the reopening as a “great day for the world.”
He also acknowledged the diplomatic involvement of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, crediting them for supporting efforts to stabilise regional maritime security and global trade flows.
Strait of Hormuz Reopening Restores Global Shipping Routes
According to Trump, the Strait of Hormuz is now open for international shipping, easing concerns over disrupted global oil trade routes, energy supply chains, and maritime security in the Gulf region. The waterway is one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for crude oil and liquefied natural gas transport.
The announcement has been widely interpreted as a positive signal for global shipping stability, particularly after heightened tensions in recent weeks over regional security and naval risks.
US Iran Nuclear Deal and Regional Security Conditions
Trump also stated that restrictions related to Iran would remain in place until a final agreement is fully concluded, although he claimed most terms have already been settled under a broader US–Iran nuclear deal framework.
He added that the United States would secure Iran’s nuclear material without any financial exchange, while stressing that the agreement is not linked to developments in Lebanon, which Washington would handle separately.
Lebanon Conflict, Israel Strikes, and Sea Mine Clearance
In his remarks, Trump claimed that Israel would halt strikes in Lebanon following US diplomatic intervention, while also stating that Iran is assisting in clearing sea mines from key maritime zones.
These developments, if confirmed, would mark a significant shift in Middle East conflict de-escalation efforts, potentially impacting regional security dynamics, global oil markets, and international maritime trade routes.
