Beijing – Pakistan will establish a special protection unit in Islamabad dedicated to ensuring the security of Chinese nationals, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Wednesday.
The announcement was made during a meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, held at the Ministry of Public Security headquarters in Beijing.
Pakistan, China Agree to Strengthen Security Cooperation
During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance bilateral security cooperation, particularly in counter-terrorism efforts. The discussions included plans to:

Develop a joint rapid-response mechanism to address terrorism threats

Expand training programmes to improve police capacity and operational readiness

Strengthen coordination on the protection of Chinese citizens and joint development projects
Wang Xiaohong praised Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the country in the fight against terrorism.
Special Protection Unit to Safeguard Chinese Citizens
Emphasising the importance of protecting Chinese nationals working in Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi said effective security measures are already in place, including the decision to form a dedicated protection unit in Islamabad.
The move reflects Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens involved in bilateral projects and economic cooperation, particularly under joint development initiatives.
Cooperation in Cybercrime and Artificial Intelligence
The two ministers also discussed collaboration in cybercrime prevention. Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s interest in leveraging Chinese artificial intelligence technologies to support the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in tackling emerging digital security challenges.
Regular Meetings and High-Level Engagement Agreed
To formalise ongoing collaboration, Pakistan and China agreed to:

Hold joint working group meetings every three months

Conduct an annual ministerial-level meeting on security cooperation
Both sides also exchanged invitations for official visits, including participation in the Global Security Cooperation Forum, scheduled to take place in China this September.
