Indian captain Suryakumar refuses Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.

The Asia Cup controversy has escalated as Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that he will not accept the tournament trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in case of India’s victory.

According to Indian media reports, Yadav conveyed his reservations over Mohsin Naqvi’s presence at the trophy ceremony, calling it “unacceptable”. The matter has escalated following the recent handshake controversy during the Pakistan–India clash in the Asia Cup.

The tournament has been overshadowed by disputes between the PCB and the International Cricket Council (ICC). Sunday’s incident, where players from both sides avoided shaking hands, sparked widespread criticism and fueled tensions between the two cricket boards.

In response, the PCB even threatened to reconsider its participation in the ongoing tournament, warning that such incidents undermine the credibility of the Asia Cup.

Mohsin Naqvi expresses disappointment

Breaking his silence on social media platform X, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed disappointment over the unfolding situation.

“It is extremely disappointing to see the lack of sportsmanship in sports today. Dropping politics into sports is against its true spirit. Hopefully, all teams will celebrate future victories with dignity and decency,” he said.
