Ahmadiyya community leader has been murdered in Bahawalpur.
Tahir Iqbal, a prominent leader of the Ahmadiyya community, was mercilessly gunned down by assailants riding a motorbike in Hasilpur Tehsil of Bahawalpur District on Monday.
The horrifying attack unfolded during the early hours of the morning while Iqbal was on his routine morning walk in Chak-84.
Without warning, two assailants on a motorcycle unleashed a barrage of gunfire, fatally striking Iqbal on the spot.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with Iqbal’s lifeless body subsequently transported to the morgue for a detailed autopsy.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials initiated a probe into the incident, filing a case against the unidentified attackers.
Expressing profound dismay and concern, a spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya community decried the alarming surge in targeted violence and animosity directed towards their members.
The spokesperson warned of the dire consequences of such hostility, urging authorities to take decisive action to address the escalating tensions.
Furthermore, they demanded that those responsible for perpetrating such heinous acts be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
Offering initial insights into the motive behind the brutal murder, Bahawalpur’s District Police Officer Abbas Shah indicated that preliminary investigations suggested a backdrop of honor-related enmity.
According to Shah, Iqbal, who also served as a respected landlord, had reportedly been embroiled in a relationship with a woman from his local community.
This romantic entanglement had previously drawn threats from the woman’s family, hinting at a possible motive for the deadly assault.
