PTI calls for trial of former PM Imran Khan’s military secretary. PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan has urged for the trial of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s military secretary in connection with the diplomatic cable case.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament House, Ayub, accompanied by PTI’s newly elected chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, stressed that the responsibility of safeguarding the cipher documents rested with the then-prime minister’s military secretary.

He asserted that any legal proceedings should target these individuals specifically. This call comes after Imran Khan and PTI senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi received 10-year sentences each in the cipher case in January 2024.

Ayub also called for a judicial inquiry into the ciphergate case and criticized PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for his alleged use of unparliamentary language and purported lack of understanding regarding the cipher mechanism.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reiterated the party’s determination to forge ahead despite confronting challenges and lambasted the ruling alliance, asserting their perceived inability to effectively navigate the country through crises.

Earlier, responding to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s remarks concerning the cipher case, former NA speaker Asad Qaiser advocated for the formation of a judicial commission to probe the matter.

Qaiser criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for dismissing the cases against Imran Khan as falsehoods and decried the purported crackdown on PTI leadership and workers.

He emphasized Imran Khan’s steadfastness in adhering to his principles and called for the release of party leadership, as well as the withdrawal of cases against them, including Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi.

In response to Bilawal‘s call for dialogue among stakeholders, Qaiser questioned whether the PPP chief was oblivious to the alleged election rigging during the February 8 polls, which he characterized as the most egregious in the country’s history.
