Wahab Riaz officially named as Pakistan chief selector. Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz has assumed the pivotal role of chief selector for the national men’s selection committee.
The announcement comes ahead of crucial series, including a three-match Test series against Australia and a five-match T20I series against New Zealand.
Having made his international debut in 2008, Wahab Riaz boasts an impressive cricketing career, featuring appearances in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is.
His notable record includes 237 wickets and 1200 runs across all three formats, making him a significant figure in Pakistan’s cricketing history.
Particularly noteworthy is his standing as Pakistan’s second-most successful bowler in World Cups, with an impressive tally of 35 wickets spanning three editions of the prestigious tournament.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Wahab Riaz conveyed his honor in being entrusted with the responsibility by Chairman PCB Management Committee, Mr. Zaka Ashraf.
He acknowledged the challenging nature of heading a selection committee, recognizing the upcoming Australia tour as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle and the T20I series against New Zealand, crucial steps in building a formidable squad leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies in June.
Wahab Riaz emphasized his commitment to the betterment of Pakistan cricket and outlined his primary goal of giving due consideration to top performers in domestic cricket when forming well-rounded squads.
He also highlighted his collaborative efforts with Pakistan Men’s Team Director Mohammad Hafeez, underlining their shared objective of success for Pakistan cricket.
