IESCO announces installment plans amid electricity bills protests.

After widespread protests were staged throughout the country, including in the capital city, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company launched an installment offer for customers.

The news was made by IESCO Chief Executive Dr. Muhammad Amjad Khan, who stated that he has instructed all business offices to provide payment plans to clients who are unable to pay their bills in full.

In addition, he urged IESCO customers with questions about their bills to stop by the offices of the pertinent Sub-Divisional Office, Revenue Office, or Customer Service Centres.

A day before, protests against a significant increase in electricity costs were held across Pakistan, adding to the woes of the country’s already-inflation-stricken citizens.

Before protesters descended upon the streets in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Attock, Gujranwala, and other cities nationwide, Jamat-e-Islami had issued a call for action, urging the government to revoke recent increases in power tariffs as well as any extra taxes on electricity costs.

As IESCO has announced installment plans amid electricity bills protests, earlier traders in Karachi joined the demonstrations against the excessive electricity bills, some of whom set them on fire.

Addressing the protest rally JI Karachi’s emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman warned that the situation could worsen if the government continues to put burden on people. He said, “We will show resistance if anyone comes to cut our electricity connection”. He urged the government to tax the landloards not the poor people.

After Friday prayers, protesters in Rawalpindi gathered on Murree Road and chanted anti-Islamabad Electric Power Supply Company slogans.
