In yet another attack on the team, Cristiano Ronaldo claims that Manchester United’s Glazer family owners “don’t care” about how successful the Premier League powerhouses are on the field.
Under new manager Erik ten Hag, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been a little player this season and was penalised for refusing to enter as a substitute.
However, the star player from Portugal had recently made a comeback and had even led the Red Devils to a 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa.
The 37-year-old was not there for United’s final game before a six-week break for the World Cup, a 2-1 triumph against Fulham on Sunday.
Ronaldo, who established his name at Old Trafford, said he felt “betrayed” by United and that he thought senior club executives were attempting to get rid of him in an explosive interview with TalkTV on Sunday.
He continued to wage war on the team where he established his reputation during his first stay at Old Trafford from 2003 to 2009 in another segment of the interview released on Monday.
The forward, who joined the team again last year, claimed that the American Glazers, who have owned United since 2005, do not have the interests of the team’s best interests at heart and that he does not speak to them.
Manchester is a marketing club, as you are aware, and the Glazers don’t care about the club or professional sport.
“They will profit from the sport’s marketing, but I don’t think they actually care about it.
“The supporters are always correct. I believe that the players desire the best for the team and that the supporters should be aware of this. I want the club to succeed. I came to Manchester United for this reason.”
During his first spell at United, Ronaldo won three Premier League championships and the Champions League, but the team hasn’t taken home a trophy since 2017.
Rooney fight
Ronaldo claimed that “certain factors inside the club” made it difficult for United to compete with rivals Manchester City and Liverpool and that it would take some time for them to rise to the top again.
In response to criticism from his former teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville, he has also come down hard on them.
“Despite the fact that everyone is free to express an opinion, they often lack context. For instance, on the practise field, in Carrington, or even in my life, “added he.
“They must also take into consideration my viewpoint. Because it’s simple to criticise, especially if you don’t know the complete story.
“They aren’t my buddies,” I said.
Ronaldo provided an explanation for his decision not to join United on their preseason tour of Australia in his interview.
Only a few months after the loss of their newborn boy, he claimed partner Georgina Rodriguez and their infant daughter Bella Esmeralda were hospitalised with a “serious problem,” but he claimed the United hierarchy did not fully trust him.
He declared, “I will never, ever sacrifice my family’s health for a football.” Never. They mistrust my words whether they are 10 years in the past or the future, and it genuinely hurts me.
United said in a statement that it will “consider its response until the complete facts have been confirmed.”
Portugal, who won the Euro 2016 tournament, is in Group H and does not begin their World Cup campaign until November 24.
“Total and absolute focus on the work of the national team,” Ronaldo wrote in a message shared on social media alongside a picture of himself and some of his international teammates.
