President and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman vowed on Saturday that he would fight the “forces of evil” alone if no one stood by him and his party, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of political parties and that he would not bow to any pressure and would never admit defeat.
“Look what I found! We have never surrendered to anyone,” he added aloud, grumbling that while the state institutions were mainly impartial, some groups within them still had a soft spot for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
He made no apologies for his and his party’s worries over the role of the ISI’s Peshawar chapter.
Rejecting the PTI’s assertion that a “foreign conspiracy” was behind the collapse of its administration, Fazl claimed that the plan was formed to undermine the morality of the country’s youth, not to overthrow the party’s government.
In a press conference, he said that the previous PTI government attempted to link opposition politicians in ‘false’ cases. “Political parties have their own manifestos,” he added, adding that the destiny of these parties in elections was up to the voters.
The PDM president stated that he wants all parties that were part of the alliance and are now part of the coalition government to contest by-elections against the PTI together. “Right now, I want to see this arrangement exclusively for by-elections; we’ll decide on general elections later,” he continued.
