Trump wants American companies to start investing in Pakistan immediately: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has maintained that America is interested in investing in Pakistan’s IT and other key sectors, calling his meeting with President Donald Trump “a milestone” for bilateral ties.

Talking to media representatives in New Jersey, PM Shehbaz revealed that President Trump has asked American companies to immediately invest in Pakistan.

Investment offers were put forward in agriculture, IT, minerals, and energy, with mineral pricing to be determined fairly between both nations.

Shehbaz Sharif added that future trade agreements with the US will be rooted in mutual benefit, ensuring balanced cooperation across sectors.

The premier noted that the reception he received in the US rivalled his past experience in Saudi Arabia, calling it “unprecedented in 40 years”.

He praised the Pakistan Army’s wisdom under the leadership of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, crediting them for averting conflict with India. He further acknowledged the role of the US in brokering peace, saying the Secretary of State conveyed India’s ceasefire message on May 10.

Meeting at Oval office

At the White House, President Trump warmly welcomed Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. The one-hour-and-20-minute Oval Office meeting also included Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, discussions focused on regional security, counter-terrorism, intelligence-sharing, and trade. Shehbaz Sharif also invited President Trump to visit Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude to Trump for the trade agreement, adding that under his leadership, Pak-US relations could grow stronger and deliver equal benefits to both countries.

He praised Trump’s “bold and decisive” approach, saying his leadership had spared South Asia from a major tragedy by ensuring a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

Engagements with UN and China

Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, where he raised the issue of Indian terrorism in Pakistan and urged a just settlement of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions. He also proposed more financial support for climate-affected nations.

In an informal meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, the Prime Minister received appreciation for his UN speech, with both leaders reaffirming bilateral cooperation.
