Loadshedding to persist as electricity shortfall reaches 7,793 megawatts

The country’s electricity shortfall has reached 7,793 MW, with total power generation hovering around 19,207 MW and total demand standing at 27,000 MW, necessitating lengthy power outages across the country.

According to power division sources, at least 4,344 MW of electricity is generated from water, while the government’s thermal plants produce 1,190 MW.

The total electricity generated by private sector power plants is 10,520 MW, with at least 1,107 MW generated by wind power plants and 119 MW generated by solar power plants.

Bagasse-based power plants produce 178 MW of electricity, while nuclear fuel-based power plants produce 1,749 MW of electricity.

Meanwhile, up to 16 hours of electricity load shedding are being implemented across the country.

Power load shedding is also carried out for at least eight hours in Islamabad, with load shedding lasting longer in areas with high losses.

The duration of power outages in Karachi has been extended to 15 hours. The worst-affected areas include Lyari, Baldia Town, Orangi Town, Ittehad Town, Machhar Colony, Kharadar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Clifton, Malir, Korangi, and Landhi.
