PM Shehbaz orders not to cut Higher Edu Commission budget

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday ordered the restoration of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as well as not cutting its budget for the fiscal year 2022-23.

The prime minister stated that the commission should be fully operational, as it was during the previous PML-N administration. “Do not reduce the HEC’s budgetary allocations.” Rather, we should increase its resources,” he instructed the finance and planning ministries.

PM Shehbaz expressed his concern about periodic cuts to HEC funds during the PTI government’s four years in office, emphasizing the importance of doing the opposite because it had a negative impact on higher education in the country.

He also directed that all educational projects at all of the country’s universities be restored. “Rather, the number of such projects should be increased in order to bring our country’s educational standards in line with those of the West and the developed world,” he directed.

Separately, he stated in a tweet that he had given clear instructions to the relevant officials in this regard.
