Raise in petroleum products’ prices challenged in LHC

On Friday, an unprecedented increase in the prices of petroleum products (POL) was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The petitioner asked the court to declare the federal government’s decision to raise prices null and void, naming the federal government, the Ministry of Petroleum, and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) as respondents.

On the other hand, the public has expressed outrage at the government’s decision, claiming that it was one step ahead of its predecessor in raising the prices of essential items.

They are concerned that such a large increase will cause inflation in the country.

During a press conference yesterday (Thursday), Finance Minister Miftah Ismael announced a Rs30 per litre increase in petrol and diesel prices.
