The Supreme Court has directed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition government and the Islamabad administration to make Sector H-9 in Islamabad available for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) meeting.
The court ordered the government to provide the PTI with the same grounds that it provided to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) during its long march some time ago.
In this regard, the Attorney General informed the Supreme Court that the H-9 Ground can only accommodate 10,000 to 15,000 people.
The court also advised the government and the administration in Islamabad to avoid disrupting traffic flow on the Srinagar Highway.
The court also barred the government from conducting raids on the homes of PTI workers and leaders. The court has also ordered the release of all PTI lawyers who have been arrested.
During the Supreme Court hearing on the PTI’s case against road closures and raids to end the long march, the Attorney General named members of the Government Negotiation Committee, including Yousuf Raza Gilani, Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, and Azam Tarar.
He informed the court that the negotiating committee also includes Faisal Sabzwari, Agha Jan, Asad Mahmood, and Khalid Magsi. He informed SC that the coalition ministers had also been added to the committee.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court directed that the government and PTI negotiating committees meet at the office of the Islamabad Commissioner at 10 p.m. On this, the Chief Commissioner Islamabad assured the Supreme Court that the court order would be followed.
The Supreme Court denied the PTI’s request for immediate removal of roadblocks, and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan stated that they cannot issue all orders today because the case is not yet over. He stated that the case will be heard again tomorrow.
