Police seizes weapons from house of PTI leaders

A huge cache of modern weapons was recovered from the Lahore home of PTI leaders, which police feared could have been used in the party’s long march beginning today.

Maryam Nawaz, vice-president of the rival PML-N, tweeted the news along with images of the seized weapons due to the large quantity of brand-new and contemporary firearms.

The Lahore DIG Suhail Chaudhry stated at a news conference that bullets and modern weapons were recovered from PTI leaders.

The DIG stated that the weapons had been recovered from the residence of PTI leaders Zubair Niazi and Bajash Niazi. Suhail Chaudhry added that the weapons were concealed in vehicles and the PTI leaders were able to flee the scene after the police raided their home.

He added that Lahore Police had intercepted the vehicles and seized the new and modern weapons in the possession of PTI leaders that could have been used in the long march.

According to him, the raids took place in the Nawan Kot and Multan Road regions.

According to the DIG, the recovered weapons included 96 submachine guns (SMGs), six 223-caliber firearms, three pistols, 70 small arms packages, and 50 magazines.

The police conducted a raid and search of three vehicles, recovering the weapons from one of them.

The DIG asserted that the arms were transported to Lahore at 12 a.m. with the apparent intent of using them in the long march.

According to him, a case has been opened and arrests have been made.

According to him, police conducted raids in light of an incident that occurred last year in which a religiopolitical party opened fire on the Lahore police and killed two officers.

He stated, “This time, we gathered extensive information prior to the long march.”

Suhail Chaudhry stated that police were on high alert and conducting search operations to prevent any untoward occurrence.

He stated that only two prominent leaders, including Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed and Ejaz Chaudhary, have been arrested.
