Matric exams for Karachi students begin

Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) is conducting Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Matric Part-I and Part-II examinations for over 365,000 students at 448 examination centres across the megacity on Sunday.

Students from all matriculation groups, including science, general, regular, and private, are participating in the examinations.

In 285 private schools and 162 public schools, there are 253 centres for male students and 195 for female students, and 16 examination centres have been designated as sensitive centres.

At the request of BSEK chairman, Syed Sharaf Ali Shah to the inspector of police, section 144 of the criminal procedure code was posted outside of all examination centres.

Outside of examination centres, photocopiers, scanners, and mobile phones are prohibited by the education authorities.

Relevant to note is that 29 prisoners also took their ninth and tenth-grade exams behind bars.

According to media reports, examinations will consist of forty per cent multiple-choice questions, forty percent short-answer questions, and twenty percent questions with lengthy detailed answers.

BSEK also wrote to K-Electric requesting that load-shedding not occur near examination centres.

In an effort to eradicate the menace of “copy culture,” Sindh has reportedly banned all students and teachers from carrying mobile phones during matriculation and ninth-grade examinations.
