Punjab govt issues suggestions for schools in light of heatwave

The Punjab health department issued an advisory on Tuesday to keep children safe ahead of a heatwave expected to hit the province, including the provincial capital, Lahore, in the coming week.

The department asked school administrators to set up emergency helpline centers within their institutions so that children who became ill or lost consciousness due to the extreme heat could be treated.

They were also told to open their schools earlier so that the children would not be exposed to the sun.

Similarly, the department requested that they end the sports period as long as the heatwave lasted.

The administration of these schools was also directed to have students sit in open and airy classrooms rather than in open or crowded rooms.
