FIA court postpones money laundering case hearing till May 14

Punjab Chief Minister-elect Hamza Sharif appeared before the FIA’s Special Central Court on Wednesday in a Rs25 billion money laundering case.

The court heard Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz’s interim bail applications as their bails expired today. The court was scheduled to hear arguments regarding Shehbaz and Hamza’s indictment.

Hamza, the CM-elect, appeared before the court, but Premier Shehbaz was unable to attend due to other important engagements.

Aqeel Khan, the prosecutor, appeared before the court to argue the case.

The prime minister filed an application seeking exemption from court appearances.

The court was informed during the hearing by the FIA that the case’s Investigation Officer (IO) had been changed, and new IO Nadeem Akhtar appeared before the court and requested additional time to get a handle on the case.

The court then continued the hearing until May 14.
