WhatsApp Testing Scheduled Messages Feature for Chats and Groups

WhatsApp Testing Scheduled Messages Feature for Chats and Groups

San Francisco: WhatsApp is reportedly developing a long-awaited feature that would allow users to schedule messages for automatic delivery in both individual and group chats, bringing the platform closer to functionality already offered by rival messaging apps.

The feature was spotted by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp beta version 26.7.10.72 for iOS, indicating that development is actively underway.

How Scheduled Messages Will Work

According to details shared by WABetaInfo, the new tool—tentatively referred to as Scheduled Messages—will allow users to:

  • Compose a message

  • Select a specific date and time

  • Have the message sent automatically, without further user action

Once scheduled, messages will appear in a dedicated “Scheduled Messages” section within the chat information screen. From there, users will be able to review, edit, or delete messages before they are delivered.

Screenshots shared by WABetaInfo show the feature functioning in a group chat environment. However, there is no indication that WhatsApp plans to limit scheduling to groups only, suggesting the feature may also support one-to-one conversations.

Still in Development

Despite its appearance in the beta code, the scheduled messages feature is not yet available to beta testers. As with many experimental WhatsApp features, there is no guarantee of a public rollout, as development priorities may change.

If released, the feature could prove useful for reminders, announcements, business communication, and personal message planning—an area where users have long requested improvement.

WhatsApp has not officially commented on the feature or shared a timeline for its potential release.
