Punjab Excise Launches PAK-ID App for Biometric Vehicle Verification

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has launched a new digital biometric vehicle verification system through the PAK-ID mobile application, marking a major step toward paperless vehicle registration and transfer in Punjab.

The system has been developed in collaboration with NADRA and the Punjab Information Technology Board, enabling citizens in Pakistan and abroad to verify vehicle ownership using biometric authentication and facial recognition technology.

PAK-ID App Enables Vehicle Verification for Overseas Pakistanis

Under the new PAK-ID system, overseas Pakistanis can now verify vehicle ownership remotely, eliminating the need to:

  • Visit Pakistani embassies

  • Submit notarized affidavits

  • Grant power of attorney to relatives

Instead, users can authenticate their identity through Face ID and biometric verification directly from their smartphones, significantly simplifying the vehicle transfer process for non-resident Pakistanis.

Facial Recognition Feature Benefits Elderly Citizens

Officials stated that the facial recognition-based verification feature is particularly beneficial for senior citizens, whose fingerprints may have deteriorated over time, making traditional biometric scans unreliable.

By combining fingerprint biometrics and facial recognition, the PAK-ID app ensures higher accuracy and accessibility for all age groups.

DG Excise Calls PAK-ID a Major Digital Reform

The app was formally launched at a ceremony attended by Umar Sher Chatha, Director General of Excise and Taxation Punjab.

He described the initiative as a major breakthrough in digital governance, explaining that manual verification processes had long caused delays in vehicle ownership transfers, especially for overseas vehicle owners who previously faced complex, multi-department documentation requirements.

Cashless and Paperless Vehicle Transfer Process

According to officials, the PAK-ID system is fully integrated with the existing e-payment platform, allowing citizens to:

  • Pay vehicle transfer fees online

  • Complete verification without paperwork

  • Avoid in-person visits to excise offices

Once biometric verification and payment are completed, vehicle ownership transfer is expected to be finalized within 48 hours, significantly reducing processing time.

Nationwide Expansion Planned for Vehicle Verification System

Authorities confirmed that the system will eventually support vehicle owner verification across all provinces of Pakistan. The excise department is also working to further integrate its databases with NADRA, strengthening identity verification and reducing fraud.

Why PAK-ID App Is a Game Changer for Vehicle Registration in Pakistan

The launch of the PAK-ID app represents a major shift toward digital public services in Pakistan, offering:

  • Faster vehicle ownership transfers

  • Secure biometric authentication

  • Relief for overseas Pakistanis

  • Reduced fraud and procedural delays

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader push for digital transformation, transparency, and ease of doing business.
