Taxila Court Sentences Couple to 34 Years for Murder of Newborn

An Additional District and Sessions Court in Taxila has delivered a landmark verdict, sentencing Zulfiqar Mahmood Satti and Areeba Imran to a combined total of 34 years in prison for the murder of their newborn daughter, along with fines totaling Rs80,000.

The judgment was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Farhan Mudassir, who found the couple guilty of murder, adultery, and criminal conspiracy in connection with the fatal act.

Breakdown of Sentences

The court handed down the following penalties:

  • 10 years imprisonment each for murder

  • Five years imprisonment and a Rs10,000 fine each for adultery

  • Two years imprisonment and a Rs30,000 fine for criminal conspiracy

The ruling reflects the gravity of the crime and the court’s effort to enforce stringent accountability.

Incident Details

According to court records, the infant was brutally assaulted, sustaining severe blows to the head and back, before being abandoned in a deserted area near Gali Sat Darbar Karimi, Sadar Wah Cantt.

Local residents, alerted by the child’s cries, transported her to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Upon apprehension, the couple confessed to the crime.

Legal Proceedings and Detention

The case was initially registered at Sadar Wah Police Station on December 2, 2023. Following the court’s verdict, both convicts have been transferred to Adiala Jail to serve their sentences.

The ruling highlights the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice for the most vulnerable victims and ensuring strict legal consequences for heinous crimes.
