Road traffic crashes across Punjab have claimed 4,791 lives so far in 2025, marking a 19% increase in fatalities compared to last year, according to newly released data from Rescue 1122.
Nearly 570,000 Injured in 482,870 Road Accidents This Year
The report reveals that 482,870 road accidents were recorded this year, leaving almost 570,000 people injured. In comparison:

This sharp rise reflects growing concern over road safety and traffic violations in Punjab.

Majority of Fatal Crashes Involve Motorcycles
Addressing the annual review meeting, Emergency Services Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer said the data shows increasing crash severity. He highlighted that over 75% of fatal accidents involved motorcycles, calling it a serious safety challenge.
He emphasized that controlling speed is critical, noting:

Punjab Government Introduces New Motorcycle Speed Limit
Earlier this year, the Punjab government imposed a new motorcycle speed limit of 60 km/h, promising strict enforcement, monitoring, and penalties.
“Motorcycles will not be allowed to exceed 60 km/h,” stated Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, as part of efforts to reduce motorcycle-related fatalities.
