On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told the authorities to make sure that Imran Khan’s security was up to the mark. He asked Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to personally make sure that his orders about Imran Khan’s safety were being followed.
The interior ministry sent an urgent letter to the home secretaries of the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan because the prime minister told them to do so.
The interior ministry also told the Islamabad inspector general of police and the city’s chief commissioner to take very strict safety measures for Imran Khan.
Letter from the interior ministry: “No matter where Imran Khan goes in the country, strict security measures should be taken to keep him safe.”
“The presence of security personnel, including the bomb disposal squad, should be made sure outside Imran Khan’s Banigala home,” the letter said.
“Nothing will be tolerated when it comes to protecting Imran Khan’s rallies, parades, and other public events,” it said.
After the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore told Imran Khan that he couldn’t show up in person at the PTI’s rally in the city today, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he had to do something. The DC took action because of warnings from the intelligence agencies that there was a big risk.
PTI leaders have been told by the DC Lahore’s office that they should write to Imran Khan and suggest that he speak at the PTI rally at the Minar-e-Pakistan almost live on TV (by video link).
Due to security concerns at the Minar-e-Pakistan rally, PTI Chairman Imran Khan should address this through a video link and not go to the meeting place, the letter said.
After Peshawar and Karachi, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is going to hold a big public meeting at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. The preparations for this meeting are coming to an end.
In a letter from the DC Office, it says that “in light of severe threat alerts from security agencies and as per the most recent intelligence assessment made at the district and provincial levels, it is recommended that former Prime Minister Imran Khan should address the public gathering virtually by video conference and LED display rather than making a physical appearance at Greater Iqbal Park, Lahore on 21 April 2022. This is important to note.” It is asked that the above be taken care of quickly and effectively to avoid any problems.
