CM Hamza turns LHC for early oath-taking by governor

A petition was filed Tuesday in the Lahore High Court (LHC) requesting that the Punjab governor administer the oath of office to Chief Minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz as soon as possible.

The petition was filed in court by Hamza Shehbaz’s lawyer, Azam Nazir Tarar Advocate, and the Punjab governor and chief secretary were named as respondents.

According to the petition, former Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s resignation was accepted on April 1, and the Chief Minister’s office has been vacant since then.

“It is a constitutional requirement for the governor to summon the elected chief minister and administer the oath of office to him.” “Violation of constitutional conventions is a deviation from the Constitution itself,” according to the petition.

“A constitutional crisis is brewing that is contrary to parliamentary democracy and the spirit of the Constitution.” “The governor’s office is a symbol of federation and unity, and the governor’s job is to protect the Constitution,” the statement continued.

“The governor does not have the powers of a king under the written Constitution.” The governor’s refusal to take the petitioner’s oath is a political ploy with bad intentions. “The president’s, assembly speaker’s, and governor’s offices are obligated to avoid adopting party policies,” it stated.

“Because the oath was not administered, the petitioner was forced to file a constitutional petition.” “The Punjab government should be directed to administer the oath of office to the newly-elected Chief Minister of Punjab as soon as possible,” the court urged.

It should be noted that the petition will be marked by LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti tomorrow, after which it will be scheduled for a hearing.
