The Islamabad High Court has reserved judgement on the maintainability of a petition challenging the issuance of a diplomatic passport to PML-N supremo and three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
On Monday, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case and reserved judgement on the petition’s maintainability.
The petitioner’s lawyer stated during his arguments that a convict had been issued a diplomatic passport. On which the CJ Minallah remarked, showing him the federal government’s order in this regard.
According to the lawyer, if the government issues a passport to a proclaimed offender, it casts doubt on the court’s honour.
Justice Minallah questioned why this court would issue directives arbitrarily. He stated that the court could not make decisions based on mere speculations. “This court is well-respected and well-known for its rulings,” he continued.
The lawyer stated that word of the federal government issuing diplomatic passports had spread throughout the country. He requested that the court grant him time to obtain a copy of that order.
According to the chief justice, the proclaimed offender would be dealt with according to the law. He noted that a PO’s rights were not restored until he surrendered.
