Political changes will not impact Islamabad, Beijing relations: China

BEIJING: Political changes in Pakistan will not have an impact on relations between Islamabad and Beijing, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

During a press conference in Beijing, a spokesperson stated that China will continue to maintain friendly relations with Pakistan.

“We hope that all factions in Pakistan will remain united and work together to safeguard their overall national stability and development,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif had said the day before in his inaugural speech as prime minister that China has been Pakistan’s partner through thick and thin. “No one can take Pakistan and China’s friendship away from us,” he said, describing it as a “long-lasting relationship.”

Shehbaz also stated that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will be continued and that CPEC projects will move forward at a faster pace during his tenure as Prime Minister.
