Shahbaz Gill, Shahzad Akbar move IHC against names on No-Fly List

Shahbaz Gill and Shahzad Akbar, who served as special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) and advisor to the prime minister on accountability and interior, respectively, under the previous PTI government, prayed in separate petitions filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday for the removal of their names from the stop list.’

Both Gill and Akbar argued in their petitions that the ban on their foreign travel was illegal because they were not wanted by the authorities in connection with any crime or offense.

Even so, they went on to say, there was not a single accusation leveled against them.

Akbar even asked the Supreme Court to look into how his name ended up on the list when there was no government in the country on the night of April 9 and 10, 2022.

As a result, they pleaded that the travel ban is lifted immediately.

Yesterday (April 11, 2022), 24News reported that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had placed former special assistant to the prime minister on accountability and interior Shahzad Akbar and ex-SAPM on political communication Dr. Shehbaz Gill on the No-Fly List.

Shehzad Akbar, the former accountability czar, vigorously pursued corruption cases against the Sharif family but failed to prove anything in the accountability court.

Later, speaking to the media on the grounds of the IHC, Akbar stated that the ‘imported’ government had begun political victimization of its opponents. “Who ordered the FIA to put my name on the list when voting on the opposition’s no-trust motion was not even complete?” he asked, emphasizing that he and other former cabinet members supported PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
