Lahore schools to get zebra crossings

Lahore’s officials have finalized a citywide project to install zebra crossings and warning signboards outside schools located on busy roads to ensure safer commutes for students.

Officials say 45 percent of the work has been completed within just two weeks.

The initiative — launched on the directives of Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan — initially targets 210 schools under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Cantonment Boards.

According to the administration, the Transport and Planning Authority (TAPA) has so far installed zebra crossings and signboards at 90 schools.

The work is scheduled for completion by November 6. Under the plan, crossings and cautionary signs are being marked on both sides of the roads facing school entrances.

Joint teams from the district administration, TAPA, MCL, and LDA are carrying out the installation based on lists provided by school administrations. Where signboards were already in place, only zebra crossings are being painted.
