PTI decides to resign from assemblies: Fawad

Fawad Chaudhry, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced on Sunday that the PTI has chosen to resign en masse from the assemblies, with the process beginning on Monday with the National Assembly.

Fawad, who served in Imran Khan’s cabinet as an information minister, said in a tweet, “The PTI has decided to withdraw from legislative bodies. Following the election of the prime minister, this process [of resignations] will begin in the National Assembly tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Fawad, speaking to the media in Islamabad after a meeting of the PTI’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) at Bani Gala, said the CEC discussed the political situation following Imran Khan’s dismissal via a no-confidence resolution.

If PTI’s misgivings about PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s candidacy as Prime Minister were not addressed, the CEC suggested mass resignations from the lower house of parliament, according to Fawad. “If our concerns about Shehbaz aren’t addressed, we’ll all resign on Monday,” he continued.

Fawad said that Shehbaz’s election for Prime Minister will take place on the same day as his indictment in a money laundering case, calling it a “grave injustice.”

According to the former federal minister, the PTI nominated Shah Mahmood Qureshi for the position of premier in order to dispute the PML-N president’s nomination papers.

What could be more humiliating, he argued, than putting Shehbaz in charge of a “imported” government?

Fawad further stated that the CEC unanimously agreed that Imran Khan’s removal was a “very large plot.” He referred to it as a “foreign regime change effort,” which the PTI “rejected.” “Imran Khan’s leadership is expected by the entire nation,” he continued.

Meanwhile, ex-PM and PTI Chairman Imran Khan took to Twitter to claim that his removal from the top job was the result of a foreign conspiracy. “Today, the independence battle against a foreign conspiracy of regime change begins again,” he stated.

At a separate message, Sheikh Rashid stated that in an address at Lal Haveli at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, he will express gratitude to the voters who elected him as a minister 16 times.

“I’ll give a major speech today,” he added, adding that the Awami Muslim League, which has supported Imran for four years, will also make a “policy choice.” “If the PTI votes to resign en masse, I would also resign after discussing my people,” he continued.

He expressed gratitude to those who had repeatedly made a “ordinary citizen like him” a minister.
