Punjab University announces a sudden holiday.
The University of the Punjab in Lahore has been closed following government orders due to heightened security concerns surrounding a rally organised by a religious political party.
According to an official notice issued by the university’s registrar, all academic and administrative activities were suspended from 11:00 am today (Friday, October 10, 2025).
Security has been tightened across Punjab, with all routes leading to the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway sealed. The decision comes after overnight unrest that broke out when police attempted to arrest the party’s leader during a raid on its headquarters.

The operation triggered violent clashes, as supporters reportedly attacked police officers with stones and iron rods. At least three policemen were injured in the confrontation, prompting law enforcement to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The party had earlier announced plans to stage a major anti-Israel demonstration outside the US Embassy in Islamabad on Friday, which led authorities to take precautionary security measures across the province.
