Arrest of Mushtaq Ahmed
Mushtaq Ahmed was detained by Israeli forces while attempting to deliver food and relief supplies to Palestinians in Gaza, which has been under blockade since the start of the recent escalation.
After spending five to six days in an Israeli prison, the senator was released and later appeared in a video statement, confirming his freedom and detailing the ordeal he and others faced in custody.
‘We faced worst torture,’ says Mushtaq
In his video message, Mushtaq Ahmed revealed that he was subjected to harsh conditions during detention, describing it as “the worst torture.” He said that detainees were held in notorious prison facilities where “even clean drinking water was not available”.
“I have reached Jordan with 150 colleagues after being released,” he said. “We were imprisoned for carrying food and aid for Gaza, but our resolve remains unshaken. We will continue our resistance against the blockade.”
‘Our struggle will continue until Gaza’s liberation’
Despite the suffering, Mushtaq Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to the Palestinian cause, pledging to continue advocating for the freedom of Gaza.
“Our struggle will continue until the liberation of Gaza,” he declared, adding that he plans to return to Pakistan soon and share further details of his experience.
Pakistan’s diplomatic response
Following his release, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s support for humanitarian efforts in Gaza and expressed relief over Mushtaq Ahmed’s safety.
“The embassy will provide all possible facilities for his safe return,” Dar stated, thanking the friendly nations that intervened diplomatically to help secure the senator’s release.
