OGDC discovers major gas and condensate reserves in Khairpur.

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced a big discovery of gas and condensate from the Bitrisim East-1well in Khairpur district, Sindh.

Authorities said the find is expected to make a notable contribution to Pakistan’s energy reserves and help reduce the country’s reliance on imports.

Details of discovery

According to the OGDC spokesperson, the Bitrisim East-1 well will yield around 22.5 million cubic feet of gas per day and approximately 690 barrels of condensate per day. The well has been drilled to a depth of 3,800 meters.

Drilling operations at the site commenced on June 30, and the company confirmed that the results mark a major success for Pakistan’s exploration sector.

Why this docovery is important?

The OGDC spokesperson emphasized that this new discovery would significantly increase Pakistan’s national energy reserves. By adding to domestic production, the discovery is expected to bridge the gap between supply and demand, which has long troubled the country’s energy sector.

Reduction in import bill

In addition to easing local energy shortages, the discovery will also help cut down the import bill of oil and gas. This is expected to provide some relief to Pakistan’s struggling economy by reducing dependency on foreign energy supplies.
