A gallery in Lahore’s Poonch House has preserved rare court scenes from the historic trial of Bhagat Singh, the revolutionary who raised the slogan of freedom in the subcontinent.

Singh faced a treason case for three years before being executed on March 23, 1931.

Set up with the cooperation of the Punjab Department of Industries and the Department of Tourism, the Bhagat Singh Gallery recreates the trial proceedings through life-size models and historic displays.

Singh, who was arrested by the British authorities, was brought to trial at Poonch House, where the courtrooms have now been renamed in his memory.

One room depicts the courtroom setting with statues of Bhagat Singh and Justice Sir Shadilal, while another showcases a pictorial story of Singh’s life from birth to execution. His prison letters and various disguises are also part of the exhibition.

Former Director of Archaeology Muhammad Hassan, who oversaw the project, said the purpose was to preserve historic heritage and sites for future generations.

The gallery offers visitors a rare glimpse into the trial of Bhagat Singh, providing an interactive way to understand a pivotal chapter of history.
