Barack Obama wins third Emmy for outstanding narration.

Former United States president Barack Obama has won his third Emmy, this time in the Outstanding Narrator category at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, held on Sunday, 7 September.

The former US president, aged 64, received the award for his narration in the Netflix series “Our Oceans”.

Obama did not attend the ceremony in Los Angeles. Jordan Klepper accepted the award on his behalf.

Other nominees

Other nominees in the category included Sir David Attenborough (Planet Earth: Asia), Idris Elba (Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Colour), Tom Hanks (The Americas), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Octopus!).

Obama was announced as the narrator of the documentary series in September 2024, and he appeared in the series two months later.

Across five episodes, the series explored each of the world’s oceans. Obama narrated segments on humpback whales in the Pacific Ocean and walruses in the Arctic and featured the Indian, Southern, and Atlantic Oceans.

The “Indian Ocean” episode contributed significantly to his win. The series, produced by the creators of Our Great National Parks, was filmed using recently developed underwater technology.

Primetime Emmy Awards

Obama earlier won Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022 and 2023 for Our Great National Parks and Working: What We Do All Day.
